Yogi Adityanath is a senior cabinet minister in the Indian government and the current chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

 

Life of Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath was born on 5th June 1972 in the small town of Panchur near the Terai region of Nepal. His father’s name was Anand Singh Bisht. He also established a school. Yogi Adityanath says he will remain unmarried untill Hindu tradition is followed all over the world. His father died in 2020 but he wasn’t able to attend cremation due to corona.

 

Study and Joining Hindutva

He completed his study in 1995 from Tilak Madarsa, Gorakhpur. Later he completed B.A Political Science with English in 1997 from Gorakhpur University. He also did LLB Law in 2002. Yogi Adityanath is the main leader of the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) youth organization. He is a member of the Hindu Mahasabha of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of Bharatiya Vahini, which is a splinter group of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Yogi Adityanath is a member of the ‘Bhartiya Janta Party’ and also a part of the state unit. He was also elected as Bharatiya Janata Party’s general secretary for Uttar Pradesh, in February 2014. Later he became state Chief minister.

 

Leader in Hindutva politics

He is one of the prominent leaders in India’s right-wing Hindutva movement. Which advocates Hindu revivalism through social conservatism and associating modern India with Hindu culture. Adityanath is a strict proponent of Hindutva ideas in politics and religion. Adityanath is credited with helping organize protests against the publication of Hindi translations of five Hindi books by American author Wendy Doniger’s research institute on Hinduism.

He was successful in getting the book banned and filing a contempt of court petition against Doniger. Who promptly apologized and retired from her position at the institute. Adityanath is a recipient of the International Hindu Prize for 2015. In 1998 Arya Samaj awarded him ‘Kesari Darshan’. ‘Bharat Punarnirman Mahila Arogya Sansthan, New Delhi’ awarded him an ‘Excellence in Politics’ award in March 2016.

Adityanath is one of the important leaders of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Being a youth leader, his youths are highly active in UP state politics. They are very active in his political campaigns. After being elected as the MP from Gorakhpur in 2007, Yogi Adityanath visited Nepal several times. He was actively involved with Swami Keshvanand’s ‘Kailash Ashram’ located near Kathmandu. He has also taken an oath to promote the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

 

Rise as a Chief Minister

As the chief minister of India’s most populous state. He has promised to bring it on par with developed states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Haryana. He was busy in the campaign of BJP during the 2014 Lok Sabha Election. On 8th May 2017, he published the first book on Ramayana named “Bajrangi Varnashram Grahan”.

PM appointed him as National Development Council to advise him on preparing state development. In 2018, he leads a BJP delegation to China, where they seek investment opportunities. Yogi Adityanath is to become the next president of India’s ruling party’s Uttar Pradesh branch. Adityanath also announced his bid for the Uttar Pradesh chief minister election in March 2017.

Modi announced that Adityanath would head the BJP campaign for UP elections, 2017. PM Modi also added that Adityanath would be the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

UP Legislative Council (ULC) elected 62 members from single-seat constituencies on the basis of adult franchise. Cabinet recommends chief minister and deputy chief ministers to the governor.

 

Connection with Gorakhpur

He was first elected as a member of Lok Sabha in 1998 from the Gorakhpur constituency. Gorakhpur constituency is a Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. In 1996 Gorakhpur District split into Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies. The current MP from this seat is Yogi Adityanath.

As deputy chief minister, he was in charge of the two most populous and politically significant districts in northern India. This includes home to one-sixth of the Indian population – Uttar Pradesh. Where his party won a landslide victory in 2017’s assembly elections with 325 seats.

 

Other people’s thoughts on Yogi Adityanath

He censured Adityanath as an “extreme right-wing mischievous and communal” by many political leaders in India. During the same time, Leader of MP Derek O’Brien said that he would not allow Adityanath to enter West Bengal.

In June 2018, Adityanath met US President Donald Trump, who called him a “true friend of Hindus in America”. During his meeting with Trump. Adityanath said that he had urged the U.S. president to raise the issue of forced conversions with Pakistan. He has offered prayers for rain in Rajasthan after a drought-like condition gripped the state.

 

Gorakhpur has always been a hotspot of politics with some prominent leaders and Chief Ministers.
