Early life
Thomas Mann was born in Portland, Oregon, and grew up in Dallas, Texas. His father is a construction project manager. Mann attended Plano East Senior High School briefly before moving to California at the age of 17 to pursue acting.
As a child, he frequently visited local theaters with his family. His love of theater was also influenced by his father, who would act out parts of the novels he had read. Thomas Mann is a fan of both horror-movie icons and musical theater. He felt that a musical would have been the perfect medium for Brian De Palma’s Carrie (1976). When he was 12, Mann wanted to be “a rock star or an actor who has one hit song.”
Thomas Mann dropped out of high school to focus on acting. When he was 17, he moved to New York where he studied theater under William Esper. He began his professional acting career in 2008, with a role in the series “Flipper”. He then played the role of Josh Riker from 2009 to 2011 in “10 Things I Hate About You”. In 2012, Mann stole the spotlight with his performance as Derek in “Project X”, and was subsequently cast as Jordan Brennan in “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” (2013).
Acting career
In 2009, Thomas Mann made his acting debut on the Nickelodeon sitcom television series iCarly portraying the role of Jeffrey. Later in the year, Thomas Mann appeared in The Middle portraying the role of Brendan Nichols. In 2010 Mann was cast in Project X. they told him could not audition but only wished to cast people acting credits. In March 2012, Mann was in final negotiations to star in a film adaptation of the novel King Dork. The same year, Mann appeared in the film Fun Size alongside Victoria Justice portraying the role of Roosevelt. The film was released in the United States on October 26 and was both a box office bomb and a critical flop.
Throughout 2013, Thomas Mann appeared in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters portraying the role of Ben. That same year, Mann appeared in Beautiful Creatures, a film adaption of the book with the same name.
Thomas Mann starred in many films in 2015. He began starring in the film adaptation of Jesse Andrews’ novel, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which premiered on January 25 at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
