Matthew Owen “Matt” Murray born on September 18, 1989, is an American actor. He is best known for his role as James P. “Jimmy” Brighton in the comedy film High School Musical, which began filming in 2007 and was released on September 20, 2008. The film was first produced as a straight-to-DVD project before Disney Channel ordered the making of a theatrical release with the title of High School Musical: The Movie.

Early life Of Matt Murray
The youngest of eight siblings, Matthew Owen Murray was born in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from high school, he moved to Toronto, and then Los Angeles, to pursue an acting career.
While at school, Matthew started to take dance classes with choreographer Candace Pinkston. He focused on dance to better understand his character in High School Musical

In 2005, Murray was cast as the lead in the film adaptation of Hairspray. He also appeared in an episode of Criminal Minds called “The Popular Kids”, which aired on May 16, 2006.
At age eighteen, he moved to Los Angeles and quickly secured a recurring role on the Lifetime television drama “Army Wives”. His character killed off after a minor car accident. In 2008, Murray landed his most prominent role as James P. “Jimmy” Brighton in the Disney Channel musical comedy High School Musical. He also filmed a sequel titled High School Musical 2. The movie had its theatrical debut on August 17, 2007, and became one of the highest-rated Disney Channel Original Movies of all time.
The film was first produced as a straight-to-DVD project before Disney Channel ordered the making of a theatrical release with the title of High School Musical: The Movie. Murray set up a website in 2008, www.MattMurrayFan.com, to host fans’ photos and videos of him and his friends. Murray also worked on High School Musical 2 , but he had not yet been cast as one of the lead characters by the time filming began. In early 2009, he became a spokesperson for sneakers, sporting them at various red carpet events during that year.
Murray continued to film High School Musical 2 in Vancouver during 2009 and 2010, with filming for the third movie scheduled to begin in late 2010 or early 2011. During his spare time, Murray enjoys dancing, playing video games, and snowboarding.
On January 14, 2008, at the 2007-2008 NBA All-Star Game with several other fellow actors. He also made an appearance at the 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards, co-hosted both the 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards and the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards.
In August 2009, he signed on to appear in a new web series called “Teenagers”. The series released in March 2010 by The N in Canada. In addition to acting in it, he is also a producer of the show. 2009 and 2010, he hosted MTV’s annual Movie Awards alongside Emma Stone (2009) and Kat Graham (2010). In 2017, Murray was featured prominently in the third season of the web series Teenagers. As part of an ensemble cast that includes Emmanuel Kabongo, Chloe Rose, and Raymond Ablack.
Murray played Officer Gene Clemens on In the Dark, and he appeared in four episodes of Snowpiercer.
