His career

He joined FC Barcelona when he was 10 years old, making his professional debut in 2002 when he was 16. He scored two goals and made two assists in his first season at Barcelona. In 2003, he played in the Champions League. In 2004, Gerard became the first Spanish player to make it into the UEFA Team of the Year. He won a league title with FC Barcelona that year after helping them win La Liga. He left FC Barcelona for Manchester United in 2005 because Manchester United paid him more money than any other team at that time.

Youth teams

Born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, he played for various youth teams until Bernabeu was finally selected to play for the Spanish national team. He first played with the Spanish national under-19 team in 2004. He scored three goals in the 2008 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and helped Spain win gold by defeating France in the final.

He made his international debut for Spain on September 27, 2008, against Georgia in a 2010 World Cup qualifier at the age of 20. The match ended in a 0–0 draw.
