Chris Pine is currently one of the most popular faces in Hollywood. You might not know his name but you will definitely recognize him from the blockbuster movies he has starred in including Wonder Woman, Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Where Eagles Dare, and Star Trek Beyond.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Chris Pine was raised by his single mother after his father left the family when he was just two years old. His father went on to become a successful film producer while his mother worked two jobs to support their family.

Chris grew up with a very close relationship with his maternal grandparents due to his mother’s busy working schedule.

As a teenager, he attended Catholic school before attending Chabot College where he studied marine biology, and took acting classes at San Francisco State University where he met his good friend and actor, Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad).

Chris Pine was born Christopher Whitelaw Pine on August 26th, 1980 in Los Angeles, California just after his mother Kirsten Dunst gave birth to him. His parents have a history of working together and Kirsten’s first film credit was the movie Heartburn with Meryl Streep which came out in 1987.

Chris’ mother Kirsten is a big name in the movie industry and has been acting since the early 80s including films like Less Than Zero (1987), The Flintstones (1994) with Michael J Fox, as well as films that starred Meryl Streep such as The River Wild (1994), Sophie’s Choice (1982) and The Devil Wears Prada (2006).

His education

Chris Pine has attended a number of schools including Chabot College and San Francisco State University where he studied marine biology.

Family

Chris Pine was raised by his mother Kirsten, who is also an actress. He has two half-siblings on his mother’s side from a previous relationship, Samantha (born 1988) and Joseph Pine (born 1985).

His grandfather was English and his grandmother was Swedish/German so he had dual citizenship when he was born meaning that he could have represented either country at the Olympics.

Personal life

Chris was married to real estate agent Elizabeth Harnois from 2005 until 2006 after getting engaged on July 27th, 2006 at a restaurant called La Grenouille. He proposed to Harnois during a romantic dinner at The Cheesecake Factory in Los Angeles. The pair divorced on April 12th, 2008.

Career

Chris Pine has had a flourishing career in the film industry and is known for everything from romantic comedies to action films. His most famous role to date is that of Captain James Kirk in Star Trek (2009) but he has also starred as Charlie DeSalvo in The United States Of Tara (2009) and Eric Stoltz in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007).

He has also played roles in a number of blockbuster movies including Zodiac (2007), Tropic Thunder (2008), and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014), which starred Chris Pratt.

2003–2008: Early roles

Chris’ first role was in the film Harsh Times (2003) which starred him alongside his future Star Trek cast member Zachary Quinto. He followed this up with the romantic comedy Just My Luck (2006) and the action movie Smokin’ Aces (2007).

In 2007, Chris Pine starred as Tommy Sullivan in The Hunting Party. He played a character in The Lake House (2006) which starred Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Chris then got to play Eric Stoltz in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), based on the life of Jesse James. He only received minor roles for these films but it was his role as Captain James Tiberius Kirk in J.J Abrams’ 2009 reboot of Star Trek that really launched him into mainstream fame.

In 2004, Chris played the character Brad in the movie 17 Again (2004), which starred Zac Efron. It was followed by a cameo appearance in the movie Legion (2004). Alongside Jessica Biel and Paul Walker before he appeared in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005) as Starboard Navigator.

In 2006, he appeared in The Lone Ranger as well as performing. His own stunts for that movie and for Forrest Gump (1994).

2009–2016: Star Trek and worldwide recognition

In 2009, Chris Pine starred in the reboot of Star Trek as Captain James Kirk. A role originally made famous by William Shatner. The movie was released worldwide and received positive reviews from critics. As well as performing exceptionally well at the box office. So more Star Trek movies were made, including Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).

His other film credits include Into The Woods (2014). Which was an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014).

2017–present: Wonder Woman and continued film roles

Chris is currently appearing as Steve Trevor in the latest film in the Wonder Woman series, Wonder Woman (2017). He will be reprising his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Beyond (2017). Alongside Chris Pine’s Star Trek castmate Zachary Quinto.

Chris has also appeared on television in series such as Parks and Recreation and Grimm. But he is best known for his roles on the silver screen. He was named one of Men’s Health magazine’s “100 Fittest Stars of the Year” in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Chris was named Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine.

Impact of Pine on society

Chris Pine has made a name for himself in the film industry over a number of years. And he is a very influential figure in the eyes of many of his fans. An example of this is Justin Long (IMDb) who works with Chris on Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. And has helped to promote the movie on the talk-show Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Awards and honor

Chris Pine has won a number of famous awards for his work in the film industry. Including the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Movie Actor. Action for both Star Trek and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, as well as two People’s Choice Awards.

As well as these worldwide awards, Chris has won smaller awards. The first is from Cosmopolitan where Chris won Phoebe in Wonderland Award for Favorite Bad Boy in 2006. He also received an award from GQ where he won Most Stylish Man of 2008. And was named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine in 2014.
