Life of Pacino
His birth
Pacino was born in the New York City borough of The Bronx, to Sicilian-born parents Salvatore Pacino (1910–1962) and Rose DeLuca (née Salvatore; b. ca. 1918). He grew up in the neighborhood of Rosebank, Manhattan, on West 173rd Street. His father was a barbershop owner and his mother had been a hairdresser.
Pacino was raised by his mother and stepfather Charles DeLuca, who raised him and his four brothers as their own children after they were abandoned by their father Ted DeLuca when he went to prison for robbing a bank at the age of 17.
His education
He attended elementary school at P.S. 11 but dropped out a few months before his eighth-grade graduation. He ended up attending another school until he was 16 years old and then joined the United States Army where he became an accomplished boxer, kickboxing champion of the U.S. Armed Forces, and boxer for the U.S. military in general during the Vietnam War and was later discharged for medical reasons because of his severe injuries from a severe fight with Gerard Gogarty called “The Game of Death.”
His career
After leaving the army, he earned his degree at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he studied both philosophy and religion. Pacino then decided to try acting professionally by joining a local repertory group in Jacksonville, Florida. He first became known in the early 1970s as a comedian of sorts, hiring himself out for commercial voice-overs and appearing on talk shows and other TV programs.
